On a mountaintop along Al Jabal Street in Muscat, Oman, a large illuminated sign has become a new feature of the city's nighttime skyline.

Known as Muscat Sign, the landmark sits along the road connecting Bausher and Al Amerat. Its illuminated letters stand 16 meters high and span 42 meters wide, making the sign visible from surrounding roads, including the Muscat Expressway and Sultan Qaboos Street.

But the scale of the sign is only part of what makes the project distinctive. With a dynamic RGB lighting system, Muscat Sign can change its colors for festivals, seasons, and city events, bringing a different character to the landmark throughout the year.

For this project, Rishang supplied its M903AR RGB LED modules, providing the color control and signal continuity needed for the large illuminated sign.

A Landmark Designed to Be Seen

The location of Muscat Sign was an important part of the project.

Set high on Al Jabal Street, the sign overlooks the surrounding city and has a clear presence from a considerable distance. At 16 meters high and 42 meters wide, the illuminated letters are large enough to stand out against the mountain landscape after dark.

The project was intended to do more than simply display the name of the city. It was also designed to add visual appeal to Muscat and create a stronger sense of celebration during festivals and public events.

That called for a lighting system with more flexibility than a fixed-color installation could provide.

M903AR RGB LED Modules for Dynamic Lighting

Rishang's M903AR RGB LED module was selected for the project to provide the dynamic lighting effects required by the sign.

The module supports RGB pixel-level control, which allows individual LED points to be controlled separately. Each point can produce red, green, or blue light, while color mixing creates a broad range of colors.

This gives the sign much more freedom in how it is lit.

The lighting can, for example, reflect the red, white, and green of the Omani flag. For other occasions, the same system can be programmed with different colors and lighting effects for international festivals, seasonal celebrations, or city activities.

This helps prevent a single faulty point from interrupting the signal path for the rest of the display. It also helps maintain the continuity of the overall lighting effect and can make maintenance more efficient.
