Dao Mau Museum Vietnam Lighting Project | Rishang Linear Lighting
When Light Steps Back and Lets Memory Speak
On the outskirts of Hanoi, the Dao Mau Museum stands quietly among trees that have been there longer than most buildings. It was built to preserve Vietnam's Mother Goddess belief, yet it does not feel monumental. It feels remembered.
The structure is made from nearly five million reclaimed roof tiles. Each one carries weathered edges and traces of time. Nothing new was added simply for effect. The architecture relies on what already existed.
Because of that, the lighting could not be loud.

Letting the Building Breathe
In this project, light does not dominate the space. It settles into it.
Instead of highlighting objects, it reveals surfaces. Instead of drawing attention to itself, it follows the lines of brick and tile. Visitors move forward guided by subtle shifts in brightness rather than visible signage.
For this approach to work, the lighting system needed to be stable, discreet, and precise.

Rishang supplied dual-color, extruded, constant-current, waterproof linear lighting for both interior and exterior applications. The products were selected for their consistent output, smooth dimming compatibility, and ability to integrate cleanly within architectural details.
The role of the lighting was clear:
support the building, not compete with it.
Inside the Museum
Light rests at a comfortable height. It does not flood the room or seek attention.
Textures emerge gradually. Walls reveal their grain. Shadows remain part of the composition.
The constant-current system ensures uniform illumination, while dimming transitions remain soft and uninterrupted. Reliability was essential — not only for performance, but for maintaining the atmosphere the design intended.

Outside, Among the Trees
A lychee grove surrounds three tower structures that rise gently into the night. The towers glow slightly brighter than their surroundings, establishing orientation without disturbing the darkness.
Here, exterior linear lighting defines depth and distance. Waterproof construction ensures stable operation in outdoor conditions, while controlled brightness keeps the landscape calm and balanced.
No heavy markers. No visual noise.
Just light shaping direction.
A Quiet Contribution

Rishang's role in this project was not to create spectacle, but to provide a lighting foundation that designers could rely on. Stable output, low maintenance, and seamless integration allowed the architectural vision to remain intact.

At Dao Mau Museum, light does not announce itself.
It supports memory.
And sometimes, that is enough.
